During a briefing with State House correspondents at the end of the Federal Executive Council meeting in Abuja on Wednesday, Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, announced that the population and housing census originally planned for March 29, 2023, has been postponed to May 2023. The reason behind the decision was due to the Independent National Electoral Commission's postponement of the gubernatorial and State Assembly elections from March 11 to 18. Additionally, the council has approved the National Population Commission's request for N2.8 billion to acquire software needed for the census. The minister explained that the rescheduling of the elections has impacted the scheduled census, and the software will be necessary for the census to be conducted in May. The 2023 Census of Nigeria will be a detailed enumeration of the Nigerian population that will be the fifth national census in the country since Independence. It will be the first national census held since 2006. Over 820 Billion Naira has been allocated for the exercise. join the WhatsApp group
